Comprehensive research at Filadelfia

Filadelfia participates in a wide range of research activities. Currently, our research is focused on applied research and strategic research, particularly in the fields of:

  • Epidemiology, assessment, diagnostic methods
  • Research in the field of applied clinical treatment
  • Rehabilitation and social effects of epilepsy (to a lesser extent)

Our research activities are directed towards contributing to the generating of new medical insight and knowledge about epilepsy – and ultimately, to further improve the possibilities for succesful examination and treatment of epilepsy and conditions bordering on epilepsy.

Behind the genes

Researchers discover more and more genetically determined factors that cause epilepsy -  or predispose certain persons to epilepsy. Identification of genetic markers for epilepsy can serve as a basis for applying the best treatment, and it may also provide indications for the continued development/prospects for the given medical condition. Epilepsy genetics constitute a major research field at Filadelfia, and our results are shared with medical professionals and laymen from across the world – for the benefit of everyone.

Brainwaves and biosignals

Electroencephalography (EEG) is one of the most important diagnostic tools in epilepsy. Our research team is using advanced signal analysis methods to push the limits of this old diagnostic modality. In addition we use biosignals recorded with wearable devices for automated seizure defection and prediction.

Cross-disciplinary project

Filadelfia has collected a wide range of practical and scientific competences within our medical specialties. This creates a unique environment for the research projects conducted by our researchers and their partners , e.g. ”Life with a family member with a severe diagnosis”.

Several of Filadelfia’s employees are currently working on project focused on gaining insight into the full scope of what life with epilepsy entails. Our project partner  is University College Zealand. The cross-disciplinary group that is involved in investigating life with epilepsy, consists of teachers/instructors, specialised counsellors, psychologists, nurses etc. Epilepsy has more aspects that the epileptic seizures per se – the disease has a massive impact on the daily life of the patient’s immediate family as well - regardless of whether the patient is a child or an adult.
