Patient’s right to timely pre-assessment in case of disease

Patient’s right to medical pre-assessment within 30 days

If you have a disease – or if there is suspicion that you might have one – you are entitled to medical pre-assessment within 30 days, from the date on which your GP refers you to a hospital.

  • If you are going for a diagnostic examination or treatment, you have the right to pre-assessment within 1 month – if in any way medically possible.
  • You have the right to choose the hospital at which you will receive treatment, and you have the right to choose among all public Danish hospitals.
  • When you have been through pre-assessment, the decision will be made as to whether you will need hospital treatment. If you are informed that the waiting time for hospital treatment is 2 months or more, then your right to choose a hospital is expanded to include private hospitals and hospitals abroad that have an agreement with the Danish Regions. In the event that you have a severe condition/disease, the maximum waiting time is 1 month.
  • You are also entitled to choose a private hospital – including Filadelfia Epilepsy Hospital – when that hospital offers the patient programmes that your GP determines that you need.

You can find more information on the Ministry of Health website.

You can choose Filadelfia Epilepsy Hospital

If your GP determines that your need a diagnostic examination or treatment (including preexamination at the hospital) you are entitled to exercise your right to choose the hospital that should carry out the treatment or examination. Exercising your right to choose a hospital requires that your GP issues a referral to the chosen hospital. Your GP can advise you about relevant hospitals, but you are entitled to make your own decision. You can choose between all public hospitals in Denmark and you can choose a private hospital that has an agreement with the Ministry of Health, if your GP determines that the given hospital offers the expertise/patient programmes that you need.

This means that you are entitled to choose Filadelfia Epilepsy Hospital, if your GP determines that your condition requires our specific expertise/patient programmes.
