The financially independent organization Filadelfia is an umbrella organization for the following units:
Danish Epilepsy Centre
The Danish Epilepsy Centre in Dianalund is the only hospital in Denmark specialized in the treatment of epilepsy, where all aspects of comprehensive care are represented.
People with intractable epilepsy or epilepsy characterized by diagnostic or psychological and social problems are admitted to the hospital.
Departments for people with physical or mental deficits, for patients in need of short diagnostic work-ups, for children, adolescents and adults are found in 5 different units totaling 67 beds.
Patients are referred from all parts of Denmark by general practitioners or consultants in neurology and pediatrics.
Residential care is also provided in departments totaling 49 beds. The total staff of the hospital numbers approximately 405 full-time positions.
Social counseling
Social and vocational counseling is given to patients admitted to the Epilepsy Hospital, but also on a national basis in the area of epilepsy.
Rehabilitation centre for adults with traumatic brain injuries
This centre was established in 1997, originally financed by the Ministry of Social Affairs with the objective of intensive training of people with moderate to severe brain injuries in a multidisciplinary team for a trial period of 4 years.
The major objective is to build a bridge over the gab between hospital treatment and life after being discharged. The Rehabilitation Centre receives patients from all parts of Denmark after referral from physicians or social authorities. The centre has 18 beds and the staff consists of 70 persons.
Residential homes
Residential homes offer patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injuries in need of halfway housing during a prolonged course of rehabilitation. There are six 2-room apartments (46 m2) with kitchen facilities and small gardens with terraces.
Education
School for Children
Here children from all parts of Denmark are taught and observed during their admission to the children’s department at the Epilepsy Hospital (nine pupils) and also children with deficits in attention, motor-control and perception (DAMP) are accepted as pupils after referral from the county of Western-Zealand. The school curriculum corresponds to the standard requirements in Denmark.
The Institute for Pastoral Care
The Institute for Pastoral Care undertakes the training of deacons and arranges teaching sessions in the fields of ecclesiastical social work.
Other types of residential homes
Filadelfia has two homes, one in Jutland for 24 patients and one in the town of Bromme close to Dianalund for 17 patients, all in need of residential care.
Recently eighteen 2-room apartments (46 m²) with kitchen facilities have been built in the hospital’s area for patients from all parts of Denmark with epilepsy or with physical and/or mental deficits.
Sheltered workshops
Sheltered workshops are open for up to 175 citizens in Western-Zealand and people admitted to the Epilepsy Hospital in need of sheltered activities.
Conference centre
Filadelfia conference centre has facilities for arranging meetings, conferences and seminars for groups from 8 to 350 people.
Filadelfia has also a fitness-centre and a small museum depicting the history of the hospital through 100 years.
